Cast On

Alright, you have made it to the knitty-gritty part of knitting (punn intended). The casting on is probably the most complex part of knitting. But, the good news is, you only have to do it a couple times.

1: To start off you need to know how much yarn to start off with. Luckily this is pretty easy to remeber, for how wide you wan't your scarf or napkin or whatever you want, tripple it, and then mark it. Lets say I want a 9 inch long scarf, that means I would mark it at 27 inches of yarn.

2: Now your going to make your slip knot. Sart by making a tiny hoop (about 1 inch) at your mark. Wile pinching at the base of your hoop, pinch the string about an inch away from the base of your hoop, bring it behind the loop and then pull it through. Put your needle through the slipknot and pull tight.

3: Start by grabbing the string with the end with your left hands four fingers, making a bears paw with your thumb up. Then take your thumb go behind the string wraping the string around your thumb. Then take the needle and touch it to the base of your thumb and thread through the hoop. Now wrap the thread attched to the yarn ball the back of the needle touching below the tip of the thumb. Then bring your thumb up and over the needle and pull tight. Repeat this process until you are ready to start knitting!
